Materials & Equipments
Only a few pieces of yoga equipment are needed in order to start this practice, but they can help a person to accomplish the proper techniques and stretches that are performed. They include a mat, towel, blanket, blocks and wedges, and straps. In yoga studios with hardwood floors, a sticky rubber mat will help to keep from slipping. There are various styles of yoga mats, such as formats that offer more sweat resistance, more stickiness, more padding, or different materials. A towel can be used to wipe away sweat or as a roll to help support under the neck during certain stretches. A blanket is helpful to fold up and sit on if it is difficult to sit flat on the floor with legs crossed. It can also be used to cover up with when lying still during certain poses. Blocks and wedges are brick-sized pieces of foam that can help with body alignment and to get into some of the poses. Straps are made of cotton and are useful for holding poses and stretching, particularly poses with the legs. They usually come with a D-ring or quick release buckle to adjust the length.
